Landscaping in Irving, TX requires a fundamentally different design approach than landscaping in most other parts of the country. Summer temperatures that exceed 100 degrees Fahrenheit create heat stress conditions that eliminate most plants not specifically adapted to the southern Great Plains. Clay soils that stay waterlogged for days after a rain event and then crack during drought create drainage conditions that suffocate roots in wet periods and stress them in dry ones. And the combination of late spring freezes and early summer heat waves compresses the establishment window to a period short enough that species selection and installation timing both matter enormously.
Build Strong Construction and Remodeling designs and installs landscaping for Irving homeowners around what genuinely grows and holds up here over the long term, not what looks good at a nursery and survives the first six months before the first real DFW summer tests it. We select plants for heat tolerance, drought adaptation, and soil compatibility with DFW's specific clay composition. We install irrigation systems designed around the actual water requirements of the plant palette rather than a generic schedule. And we grade every planting bed for drainage that moves water toward root zones rather than pooling it or directing it toward the home's foundation.
Every plant we specify is assessed for heat tolerance, clay soil drainage compatibility, and drought adaptability specific to the DFW climate before it goes into the ground.
We zone irrigation by plant water requirement so drip zones for shrubs don't run the same schedule as spray zones for turf, and each zone gets the water its plants actually need.
Native and drought-tolerant plants still need establishment watering. We set the irrigation schedule and walk you through how to adjust it as plants root in, so you don't lose plants in the first summer.
We design and install landscaping in Irving around the DFW climate’s actual requirements rather than the idealized conditions that most plant tags and landscaping guides are written for. That means choosing Bermuda for full-sun lawns that will face multiple weeks above 100 degrees rather than fescue that goes dormant and brown in the heat. It means amending clay soils with the correct organic material before planting rather than planting into unmodified clay and hoping roots establish through a medium that drains poorly and compacts under summer dryness. It means designing irrigation zones around plant type and water requirement rather than running one schedule that overwatered some areas and underwatered others.
Every landscaping project we complete in Irving includes a planting plan that documents every species installed, its mature size, water requirement, and specific care needs during the establishment period. We walk every client through the establishment watering schedule before we leave the site, explain what establishment stress looks like versus actual plant failure, and make ourselves available for follow-up questions in the weeks after installation when the new plant material is being tested by its first North Texas weather cycle.

I cannot say enough good things about my experience working with David Rubin and his team on my backyard project. From the very beginning to the completion of my back porch and beautiful gazebo area, David was there every step of the way. I had several contractors come out and give me estimates, but David immediately stood out. He was personable, honest, trustworthy, reliable, and genuinely interested in understanding exactly what I wanted. As a single woman who had never taken on a project like this before, I honestly had no idea where to start. David made the entire process comfortable and stress-free. I never felt pressured or taken advantage of. David worked with me on financing to make the project affordable while still giving me what I wanted. He went above and beyond what I expected. He even provided a shower door at no additional cost and moved and stained my fence without charging me extra. While I was at work, David and his crew handled everything—from picking up supplies to coordinating the work and making sure everything was taken care of. Whenever I had a concern, an idea, or something I felt needed to be corrected, David listened and took care of it right away. He would call and check in regularly to make sure I was happy and that everything was progressing the way it should. What impressed me most was that David treated my project as if it were his own. He didn’t just want to finish the job—he wanted me to be happy with the result. And the best part is that even after the project was completed, David has continued to be helpful. He has offered to connect me with people who can help with other things around my home, such as putting furniture together, installing ceiling fans, and other handyman projects. I truly feel like I gained a friend, not just a contractor. My backyard turned out beautiful, and I am extremely happy with the quality of the work and, most importantly, with how I was treated throughout the entire process. If you are looking for someone who is honest, dependable, caring, and truly stands behind his work, I highly recommend David Rubin and his team. You will not regret choosing them! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Posted on Google![]()

The Build Strong team actually completed two projects - one to repair water damage to my retaining wall and a second to refurbish a very old pool deck that wasn't really safe to walk on. The retaining wall repair included a new French drain to relieve water pressure after rainfall and the work was completed quickly. A more challenging project followed that involved removing all of the sandstone slabs around our pool and resetting them so that they were graded correctly for runoff and to improve the overall look and safety of the entire pool. A new French drain was also installed. The work was well done and has turned an unsafe eyesore back into a nice looking finish. The first image is the upgraded pool prior to power washing and the second is the original look. We were very satisfied with both projects.Posted on Google![]()

Daniel, David, and the entire team did an outstanding job on my landscaping project—professional, thoughtful, dependable, and attentive to every detail from start to finish. The finished landscape is absolutely beautiful, and I’m so grateful for the care, craftsmanship, and pride they brought to my home.
Luxury Full Home remodeling covers more than one job. Here's how we break down the work so every part of your project gets the right level of attention.
Landscaping covers plant selection, soil preparation, irrigation, lighting, and drainage — and every component affects how well the others perform. Here's how we approach each element.
A landscape design for an Irving yard that specifies plants without assessing the site's specific sun pattern, soil drainage rate, and available space at plant maturity will produce a yard that looks intentional for one season and progressively less so as plants outgrow their spaces, fail in conditions they weren't suited for, or require irrigation volumes that strain the water bill. We create landscape designs by starting with the site — sun mapping each bed area, testing soil drainage, and measuring available space — before selecting any plant species so every plant we install has a realistic path to performing the way the design intends. Every landscape design we produce for Irving homeowners includes a planting plan that specifies each plant by common name, botanical name, mature size, water requirement, and planting spacing. The plan is reviewed and approved before any plant is ordered so the yard that gets installed is the yard that was designed, not the one that was available at the nursery on installation day.
A new lawn in an Irving yard has the best chance of establishing when the sod species matches the site's sun conditions, the soil is graded correctly before installation, and irrigation begins within hours of the first roll going down — not the next morning. We handle the complete sod installation scope: final grade that ensures drainage away from the house and toward the street or yard drains, soil amendment where the clay content is high enough to impede root penetration, sod installation with tight, staggered joints rolled immediately after installation for full soil contact, and irrigation startup on the same afternoon so the new lawn doesn't dry out in the critical first 48 hours when sod is most vulnerable to establishment failure. The establishment watering schedule is programmed into the irrigation controller before we leave the site, with daily frequencies during the first two weeks and progressively reduced frequency through the first six weeks as the root system develops.
An irrigation system in an Irving yard is the tool that determines whether the landscaping investment survives the first DFW summer or requires significant replacement afterward. A system that applies water at the same rate and schedule across different plant types, sun exposures, and soil conditions will produce results that range from inadequate in high-demand areas to excessive in low-demand areas — and both conditions are damaging to plant health and expensive to correct. We design irrigation zones by plant type and water demand, specify head type and spacing for the correct precipitation rate per zone, and program the initial controller schedule based on the establishment requirements of the specific plant palette we install.
Every system we install in Irving includes a backflow preventer as required by city code, a rain sensor or soil moisture sensor that prevents irrigation when adequate moisture is present, and a smart controller that connects to local weather data to automatically adjust scheduling based on evapotranspiration rates. The system is balanced, tested, and documented before we leave the site so the irrigation infrastructure supports your landscaping investment from the day it's installed.
The most sustainable landscaping decision an Irving homeowner can make is planting species that belong in North Texas. Texas sage, beautyberry, yaupon holly, little bluestem ornamental grass, inland sea oats, autumn sage, and Knock Out rose are among the species that establish in Irving's clay soil, survive repeated summers of 100-degree temperatures once rooted, and provide seasonal color and year-round texture without the irrigation volumes that traditional landscape plants demand. These are not utilitarian choices that sacrifice appearance for survival. They're the species that look genuinely intentional and beautiful in a North Texas landscape because they've evolved to thrive in exactly the conditions that kill less-adapted plants. We design native and drought-tolerant plant compositions for Irving yards with layered heights, seasonal bloom sequence, and textural variety that delivers visual interest through every month the plants are actively growing. Every native planting design includes an establishment irrigation plan that runs through the first growing season and a clear roadmap for reducing irrigation as plants root into your specific Irving yard conditions.
